Detective Police sub-inspector Jahangir Alam, arrested on charge of raping a woman at a hotel room, has been suspended as primary investigation confirms his crime.
Shahjahan Sheikh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police, said the rape survivor appeared before Khulna court for recording her statement on Thursday. And evidence of SI Jahangir Alam’s involvement with the crime was found in primary investigation.
SI Jahangir was suspended on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a probe committee was also formed headed by Humayun Kabir, Assistant Commissioner of Khalishpur Zone.
Officer-in-Charge of Khulna Sadar Police Station Hasan Al Mamun said the woman came from Mongla of Bagerhat for her ailing daughter’s treatment.
She along with her daughter was staying at room-13 of Sundarbans Hotel in the city.
The sub inspector stormed the room around 2:30 am and raped the mother.
When the victim cried out for help, people in the hotel rushed in and detained him. They later handed him over to police, the OC said.
On Wednesday morning, Jahangir was sent to jail through a court in a case filed by the woman. She has been sent to One Stop Crisis Center of Khulna Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
