Kiwis spinner Ajaz Patel became the 3rd cricketer in the 144-year history of Test cricket and the first New Zealand cricketer to take all 10 wickets in a Test innings on Saturday.
With the day’s feat, the 33-year-old slow left arm orthodox bowler Ajaz Yunus Patel joined the elite club with English right arm off break bowler Jim Charles Laker and Indian spinner Anil Kumble and also emerged as the first cricketer to do so in an away match.
Jim Laker earned the milestone taking all 10 wickets for 53 runs in the Manchester Test against Australia in 1956 while Anil Kumble achieved the feat against archrival Pakistan at home in 1999m conceding 74 runs.
Ajaz achieved the remarkable feat on the 2nd day of the 2nd Test at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the city of his birth, with an indefatigable 10 wickets haul conceding 119 runs in 47.5 overs and enabled New Zealand to all out hosts India for 325 runs in the first innings on Saturday.
