Police have arrested three people, including two Islami Charta Shibir activists during a secret meeting at the library of Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa.

The arrestees are Shibir activists Aminur Rahman and Shahar Ahmed and another youth named Tanvir Ahmed.

On Wednesday at noon, a team of Sylhet Metropolitan Police over a tip off raided the Government Alia Madrasa in the city’s Chauhatta and arrested them.

During the operation, police seized banners, diaries, delegate cards, books and several anti-government leaflets. Police also seized two motorcycles during the raid.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Deputy Commissioner (North) Azbahar Ali said they conducted the raid in the morning receiving information about a secret meeting of Shibir activists.

However, sensing the presence of the police, some leaders and activists fled through the back door, he said.

Sylhet’s Kotwali Police Station OC Mohammad Ali Mahmud said that as per the tip-off a conference was on-going in the library with the leaders and workers of the Shibir.

Police are preparing to file a case in this regard, he said.
