2 killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfights’

Two criminals have been killed in separate gunfights with Rab and BGB members in Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas of Cox’s Bazar.

The deceased were identified as Lutfar Rahman, 38, son of Jalal Ahmed of Nalbania village under Palangkhali union of Ukhia and Hashem Ullah, 33, son of Bashir Ahmed of C block of Teknaf Jadimora Rohingya camp.

The bodies were recovered and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

ASP Biman Kumar Karmakar, in-charge of Rab Teknaf camp, said a Rab team went to Jadimura Rohingya camp in Teknaf over an information of gunfight among some robbers.

The robbers opened fire at the Rab team, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight, he said .

After the gunfight, Rab members rescued a wounded Rohingya robber from the spot and took him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

A huge quantity of arms was recovered from the spot,said the ASP.

On the other hand, a suspected drug trader was killed in a gunfight between a group of drug traders and a BGB team at Nalbania of Palangkhali union in Ukhia upazila on Thursday evening.

The deceased was identified as Lutu.

The BGB men recovered 50,000 yaba pills and a locally-made weapon from the spot.

He was the accused in 12 cases with different police stations, 34 BGB captain Ali Haider Al Azad said.
