Two bus drivers, wanted in the death of a teenaged street hawker due to their rash driving a week ago, have been arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab),

The arrests of Monir Hossain, 27, from the city’s Paltan and Imran Hossain, 34, from Srinagar of Munshiganj district were made on Tuesday night, Rab said.

They have been wanted since the death of 14-year-old Rakibul Islam on January 20 in Moghbazar area.

Rakibul, a face mask vendor, was caught and crushed between the two speeding buses as the drivers were in a mad competition to overtake each other. They told Rab investigators that they raced to reach the next stoppage first to take more passengers.

Both the buses belonged to Ajmeri Glori Poriban.

Khandaker A Moin, Rab legal and media wing director, said on Wednesday that Monir, originally a helper of one of the buses, was driving the bus after its real driver got off at Gulishtan.

He said Imran was also wanted in a case filed with Daudkandi Police Station under Narcotics Control Act.
