An 11-year-old boy playing with other children on the steps of a building in the capital died after allegedly sustaining serious injuries from a fall down a flight of stairs on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Roman, son of Jahangir of Charfashion upazila in Bhola district. He was a student of Class IV.
Police said that Roman was playing with other children on the stairs of the building in the city’s Hazaribagh Bou Bazar area around 8pm when he lost balance while catching a ball and fell down the stairs.
A critically injured Roman was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead around 9.30pm, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the hospital police outpost.
The staircase of the building was filled up with rainwater, he added.
