The government will provide houses and two-decimal land to 9,445 families affected by river erosion, Ashrayan-style in the country, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Enamur Rahman disclosed Tuesday.

“There was massive river erosion this year, though the country didn’t witness severe flooding. A total of 9,445 families were affected by the river erosion this year. We sent a list of the victims to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They all will get houses with two-decimal lands,” he said at a press briefing.

The briefing was arranged at his ministry’s conference room on the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Reduction 2021.

The State Minister said the International Day for Disaster Reduction is on Wednesday. His ministry has taken necessary preparations to observe the day side-by-side with the Mujib Centennial in a befitting manner in Bangladesh, and join countries across the world.

He said Bangladesh will celebrate the day with the national theme of “Promise of Mujib Year, Strengthen Disaster Preparedness” (Mujib borsher protishroti, Jordar kori Durjog Prostoti).

Enamur Rahman said his ministry has been implementing different structural and non-structural programmes in planned ways to build a disaster-resistant, safe and sustainable Bangladesh by lowering the loss of lives and properties in the disasters.
