World Peace Conference: Dhaka to adopt ‘Peace Declaration’

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said ‘Peace Declaration’ will be adopted at the ‘World Peace Conference’ to be held in Dhaka on December 4 and 5 to promote peace globally.

Bangladesh, as a host, expects a wider presence of peace promoters from more than 90 countries.

“Peace activists from nearly 91 countries are expected to join our peace conference where they’ll issue a declaration on global peace,” Dr Momen said.

The Foreign Minister made the remarks while inaugurating a friendly T-10 cricket match at Moulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium in the city marking the World Peace Conference.

Bangladesh is hosting the ‘World Peace Conference’ on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 50 years of celebration of Bangladesh’s independence.

Dr Momen said Bangabandhu had struggled for establishing global peace throughout his life as he believed that ‘peace is imperative for the development’.

He said Bangladesh did not invite any head of state or government to the conference but invited peace activists, writers, poets, singers and civil society members from different countries to join the conference for promoting a culture of peace and tolerance.

After the friendly match, the Foreign Minister handed over the trophy and medals to the participating players.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen was also present.
