Trucker held over death of van puller in city

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Wednesday detained the driver of a truck from Chandgaon area of Chattogram port city as a van puller was killed being hit by the truck in Dhaka’s Bailey Road area on January 24.

The detainee was identified as Jashim Uddin, 32, son of Matlab Hossain of Bhola district.

Tipped off, a team of Rab-3 along with Rab-7 memvers conducted a drive in the area and detained Jashim around 9:30 pm from the house of his friend where he took shelter after the incident, said a press release of Rab headquarters.

Jashim used to drive sand-laden trucks from Gabtoli Truck Stand and for this he got Tk 8,000 as a monthly payment from a cement company, said Rab.

During primary interrogation, Jashim reportedlty confessed to his guilt.

The 33-year-old van puller was killed and another one injured when a truck hit two egg-laden vans in the city’s Ramna area on January 24.

The deceased was identified as Nur Alam while the injured was identified as Tuhin, 30. Both of them were residents of Tejgaon area.
