Eight teams have qualified for the super league quarterfinals of this year’s tournament after some exciting matches in the group phase. Bangladesh team has reached the next round after defeating UAE by 9 wickets (D/L method) on Saturday. They will face India in the first knockout round. The competition’s super league quarter-finals will begin on Wednesday (January 26). Let’s have a look at the complete fixtures of the first elimination round of the super league.

2022 U19 Cricket World Cup: Meet the Super League Quarter-Finalists

The top two teams from each of the four groups have qualified for the ICC U19 World Cup 2022’s first elimination round of the super league. Let’s see who made it to the next round from each group.

Group A

England earned all six points and topped Group A. They defeated Bangladesh, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates convincingly in their group stage matches. On the other side, Bangladesh started their campaign with a 7-wicket loss to England. But they bounced back with a back-to-back victory against Ireland and the United Arab Emirates, respectively. They defeated Ireland by 8 wickets and defeated the UAE by 9 wickets (D/L method). Young Tigers will face India’s U19 team in the quarter-final match. Bangladesh won their first-ever U19 World Cup championship by defeating India 3 wickets (D/L method) in the 2020 U19 World Cup final, therefore it will be a fascinating match to watch.

Group B

One of the favorites for the championship, India won all three matches in Group B and finished top in the standings. South Africa finished second in the group with 4 points after winning two matches. South Africa’s U19 team and India’s U19 team both have qualified for the U19 World Cup 2022 super league quarterfinals.

Group C

Pakistan finished top in this group with a full 6 points, advancing to the next round after winning all of their matches. Afghanistan joined Pakistan in the super league quarter-finals after finishing second in Group C, while Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea failed to qualify for the knockout stage.

Group D

Australia, Sri Lanka, Scotland, and the host West Indies were all vying for a spot in the quarter-finals in this group. Sri Lanka’s U19 team finished first in the group with six points, ahead of Australia, the West Indies, and Scotland. As a result, Sri Lanka and Australia have qualified for the super league’s first knockout round. The Caribbean U19 team’s failure to get to the quarter-finals stage was a big disappointment.

2022 ICC U19 World Cup: Super League Quarter-Finals Schedule

The super league quarter-finals will begin on January 26 with a match between England and South Africa and this phase will conclude on January 29 with a match between the defending champion Bangladesh and India.

Bottom Line

The top teams in the competition have qualified for the ICC U19 World Cup 2022 super league quarter-finals because there were no big upsets in the group stage. Group D was dubbed as “the group of death” since the West Indies, Australia, and Sri Lanka contested for a spot in the quarter-finals. Sri Lanka and Australia have advanced to the next round from that group.

Bangladesh had to wait until their last group stage match against the United Arab Emirates for a spot in the next round. India will be Bangladesh’s quarter-final opponent. The fixture between Bangladesh and India is probably the most anticipated one in this phase because both teams were finalists in the previous edition. Overall, there will be no easy matches in the super league quarter-finals, and the teams must give it their all to get to the semifinals.
