State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid has said that 5 percent of the grants for indigent artists from the welfare grants fund of the Ministry of Culture would be reserved for mentally- and physically-challenged people from now.
KM Khalid said this at a workshop co-organised by Dhaka Theatre and the British Council for the mentally- and physically-challenged artists.
The state minister said, “I am really impressed and overwhelmed to see the performances in this workshop organised with the participation of specially-abled artists. The performances prove that they are really talented and creative.”
The government has taken various steps for the welfare and proper development of specially-abled people, he said.
Nasir Uddin Yusuf Bachchu, President of Dhaka Theatre and Nahin Idris, head of arts of British Council, Dhaka addressed the function.
Samiun Jahan Dola, Creative Director of Dhaka Theatre, was present at the workshop too.
