RAB arrests youth gang members who harrassed driver on Hanif flyover

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five alleged members of an organised juvenile gang from Jatrabari area on Monday night.

The arrestees were identified as Emon Ahmed Shuvo (20), Md. Sumon Mia (18), Azaharul Islam alias Dolan (21), Antar Hossain Mollah (22) and Nazmul Hasan Beach (20) -all members of the ‘Kishore Gang’.

Based on secret information, a team of Rab-3 conducted simultaneous drives at Shanir Akhra and Gubindapur under Jatrabari Police station from 11pm and arrested the five juvenile gang members, said Additional SP Bina Rani Das of the Rab-3 battalion.

Besides, 374 Yaba tablets, 2 switch gear knives, 2 steel batons, 3 metal chains and 5 boxing punchers were recovered from the arrested gangsters, she said.

The arrests were made in connection with a recent incident in which a group of teenage gang members stopped a private car near Joy Kali Mandir on the Mayor Hanif Flyover, before verbally as well as physically assaulting the driver.

The family that owned the car was in it at the time, and their account of the incident went viral on social media, drawing wide condemnation.

RAB started gathering intelligence on those involved in the incident, and based on what they gathered, an operational team of RAB-3 conducted the drive and arrested the five on Monday.
