Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Mabia Khatun, mother of former chairman of Chattogram Development Authority and Treasurer of Chattogram City unit of Awami League Abdus Salam.
She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Mabia Khatun Afzal Hossain Nisar died of Covid-19 and breathed her last at 3:30pm on Friday at Imperial Hospital in the port city at the age of 90.
Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said several members of Abdus Salam’s family were diagnosed with coronavirus but among them his mother could not survive.
She left behind six sons, three daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers.
Her namaj-e-janaza was held at Mohrar Baitul Iqram Mosque in the evening.
She was laid to rest at family graveyard in the Chattogram city at 9 pm.
Meanwhile, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader also expressed his profound sorrow and shock at the death of Mabia Khatun.
