Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam on Sunday said no one will be allowed to build unplanned and illegal buildings in the capital.
The Minister came up with the remarks at a meeting of the newly formed cabinet committee on reviewing Detail Area Plan (DAP) at the ministry.
“From now on new buildings must be constructed considering the geological and environmental issues to make Dhaka livable with all citizen amenities and planned infrastructures, ” he said.
A Sub-Committee will be formed comprising city corporations and other organizations concerned, Islam said adding that a work-plan will be formulated to make Dhaka sustainable and habitable.
“Although implementing a work plan is a difficult challenge, it will be possible to build a modern city if all concerned and the members of the committee work with honesty and courage,” he said.
The committee will work for building a beautiful and habitable city considering issues like residence, hospital, educational institutions , playgrounds, shopping malls etc, the minister said.
Meanwhile, the meeting decided to extend the time limit for two months for giving opinions of stakeholders about the height of buildings.
