I took Covid-19 as a challenge: outgoing DMCH director

Covid-19 had rung the alarm bell loud and clear, creating panic among people.

But Brigadier General AKM Nasiruddin, outgoing director of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), took it as a challenge since the start of the outbreak in the country.

“I worked at the hospital from the beginning of the outbreak, but have not yet got tested for Covid-19,” Nasiruddin said.

“And today is my last day, and I will get a test before leaving,” he said while talking at his farewell program at Dhaka Medical Reporters Association on Sunday.

Brigadier General Mohamamd Nazmul Haque, new director of DMCH, was also present there.

“I took Covid-19 as a challenge and joined other colleagues at the hospital even during holidays. Many doctors and staff of the hospital got infected while performing duties, but I did not get tested,” Nasiruddin said.

“Had I contracted the virus, I would have to go for isolation. Then who would manage the activities of the hospital?” he asked.

“After joining as the 50th director of the hospital, I upgraded all of its departments and launched new ones to improve the quality of care,” Nasiruddin said.
