Holders Bashundhara Kings reached the semifinal of the 32nd Federation Cup Football, eliminating former champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 2-0 goal at the Bangabandu National Stadium here on Sunday.
Argentine forward Raul Oscar Becerra and Brazilian winger Robson Silva scored for the big- budgeted Bashundhara Kings, one in each half, in the day’s 3rd quarterfinal to reach the last four stage of the season’s curtain raiser soccer meet.
Defending champions Bashundhara Kings will play the 2nd semifinal on January 7 at 4:pm against the winners of Dhaka Abahani and Uttar Baridhara Club, who will meet each other in the 4th and last quarterfinal on Monday (January 4).
Formidable Saif SC, which eliminated Dhaka Mohammedan SC by 7-6 goal in sudden death session of the tiebreaker in the 2nd quarterfinal on Saturday, will play their fellow port city team Chittagong Abahani Ltd in the first semifinal on January 6 at 4:pm at the same venue.
In the day’s match, Argentine forward Raul Becerra put Kings ahead in the 10th minute by a neat finishing, utilizing an accurate cross of Brazilian booter Jonathan (1-0).
Brazilian footballer Robson sealed the fate of the match scoring the 2nd goal for the Kings in the 89th minute from a free kick (2-0).
Kings awarded the free kick just outside the danger zone as Sheikh Jamal custodian Mamun Khan fouled onrushing one of the Kings forward.
Earlier, Robson spoiled two good chances in the match.
He failed to send the ball home finding helpless opponent goal keeper in the 68th minute and later his shot returned to play hitting the post.
Sheikh Jamal fought bravely against their superior rivals in the day’s match, but failed to open the confident defense line up of the Kings.
