CTG chasing 156 to win Bangabandhu T20 Cup, after Riyad keeps Khulna fighting

Captain Mahmudullah Riyad hit an unbeaten 70 to guide his team- Gemcon Khulna- to a challenging total of 155 against Gazi Group Chattogram in the final of Bangabandhu T20 Cup on Friday at Sher E Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Khulna were sent to bat first after they have lost the toss. It made the match tough for them right away as Nahidul Islam removed Jahurul Islam off the first ball.

Inside the powerplay, they also lost Imrul Kayes for eight adding only 42 runs in six overs. In his first spell of three overs, Nahidul bagged two wickets conceding 19 runs.

Chattogram’s captain Mohammad Mithun handed the ball over Mosaddek Hossain who removed Zakir Hasan for 25 off 20 balls.

At the end of 10th over, Khulna were stuttering at 63 for three wickets.

In the fourth wicket stand, Ariful Haque and Mahmudullah Riyad added 40 runs. Ariful, who was promoted at the upper place of the batting order, managed 21 off 23 balls.

Right after Ariful’s dismissal, Shuvagata Hom came in and posted 15 off 12 balls. He accompanied Mahmudullah in a 34-run stand in the fifth wicket partnership.

They eventually ended up on a challenging total of 155 for seven in 20 overs. Mahmudullah Riyad hits an unbeaten 70 off 48 balls eight fours and two sixes.

For Chattogram, Nahidul and Shoriful bagged two wickets each while Mosaddek and Mustafizur took a wicket each.
