Cox’s Bazar: 2 Rohingya ‘robbers’ killed in encounter

Two Rohingyas were killed in an early morning gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar Friday, officials said.

The deceased were identified as Kefayet Ullah and Korban Ali alias ‘Angul Kata Shafik’.

RAB claimed both were robbers and drug peddlers, and wanted in several cases of smuggling of narcotics and under the Arms Act.

On Friday early morning, a RAB-15 team raided the Domdomia Pahar area to nab a group of robbers, following a tip off, said Md Abu Salam Chowdhury, additional superintendent of Rab-15.

“The robbers fired at the RAB-15 personnel after spotting them. Our men retaliated in self-defense,” he said.

After the gunfight ended, Teknaf police recovered the two bodies from the spot and sent them for post-mortem.

Twenty thousand pieces of Yaba tablets, two guns and ammunition were recovered from the spot, said the RAB-15 official.
