Covid-19: Lockdown in Satkhira extended by a week

Amid an alarming surge in Covid-19 cases in Satkhira, authorities have once again extended the ongoing lockdown by one more week.

The decision was taken at a virtual meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner of the district SM Mostafa Kamal on Thursday afternoon.

Besides, Satkhira Medical College was designated as a fully Covid dedicated medical facility after the meeting, said District Coronavirus Prevention Committee Member Secretary and Civil Surgeon Dr Hussein Shafayat.

Meanwhile, 3 more Covid patients died at Satkhira Medical College and Hospital in the past 24 hours.

Health authorities recorded 88 new Covid cases after testing 186 samples during this time.

The positivity rate reached 47.31% while total number of coronavirus cases in the district climbed to 2,669 with the fresh cases.

At least 255 people have died in the district so far with coronavirus symptomst.

Local administration on June 5 imposed a week-long lockdown in the district for the first time and then extended it until June 17 following a sudden spike in Covid-19 cases.
