Two readymade garment (RMG) workers were injured after police baton-charged a group of protesters demanding arrears at Adamjee Export Processing Zone in Narayanganj.
Hundreds of RMG workers of Kungtan Apparels Ltd (Fashion City) blocked the road in front of the factory demanding due payments from 6am to 2pm on Thursday.
Police charged batons and drove away the demonstrators around noon, the workers alleged.
Later, the agitated workers blocked the Narayanganj-Adamjee-Chattogram road adjacent to Siddhirganj Power Station causing huge gridlock and heavy traffic in the area.
Around 2pm, members of the law enforcement agencies later visited the spot and assured the protesting workers of meeting their demands.
Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Siddhirganj Police Station, said, “The owner of the factory announced a closure without any prior notice which sparked the protest.”
