Three times champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club made a good start in the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football on Monday, beating Federation Cup semifinalists Chittagong Abahani 2-1.
With the day’s result, almost all the favourite teams – Bashundhara Kings, Dhaka Abahani, Sheikh Russel, Mohammedan and Sheikh Jamal – made a winning start in the league.
However, Saif SC played a 1-1 draw with Rahmatganj MFS.
In the day’s match, Uzbek midfielder Otabek put Sheikh Jamal ahead in the 40th minute (1-0) while Nurul Absar doubled the margin in the 50th minute (2-0) at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Brazilian booter Nixon Guylherme netted the lone goal for the port city team Abahani in the 84th minute from a penalty (2-1).
The second round of the league will begin on Tuesday at the same venue.
Federation Cup champions Bashundhara Kings will play Bangladesh Police at 3:30pm while six times champions Dhaka Abahani will face Brothers Union at 6pm.
