Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will provide ‘flawless security’ on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021 in the city on January 10.
The decision was taken at a coordination meeting on security and traffic management for marathon race event held at DMP headquarters on Monday with DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam in the chair. Provost Marshal Brigadier General Abu Naser Md Elias also attended the meeting.
Senior military and police officers, representatives of various intelligence agencies, Dhaka North City Corporation, Health Department and Fire Service officials also attended the coordination meeting.
The event was organised in collaboration with the National Implementation Committee for Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary under the overall coordination of the Armed Forces. The marathon race will start from the Army Stadium in the capital and end in Hatirjheel in two categories – full and half.
Addressing the meeting, the DMP Commissioner said that the traffic department of the DMP will take care of the city traffic so that the people do not suffer.
He said that there will be no lack of security in the marathon race, which will be organised as part of Mujib Borsho celebrations.
The Provost Marshal said that it was not possible to organise all events in the Mujib Borsho amid the Covid-19 outbreak. This marathon event has been organised as part of the Mujib Borsho celebration, he added.
Sources at the meeting said that out of the foreign athletes participating in the event, 31 will participate in full marathon and eight in half marathon.
Security measures will include picket system on the marathon route, foot patrol, barricade checkpost, rooftop duty, mobile patrolling and deployment of still and video cameras.
No floating shop will be allowed to sit on the marathon route. There will be a sweeping system on the marathon route with a bomb disposal unit and dog squad and a medical team, firefighting units and ambulances will be deployed.
The 42.195 km full marathon and 21.097 km half marathon will start from the Army Stadium and end at Hatirjheel. The route will be Bangladesh Army Stadium-Kakoli Crossing-Kamal Ataturk Avenue-Gulshan 2-Gulshan 1-Police Plaza-Hatirjheel (four rounds of Hatirjheel in the full marathon).
About a hundred people are expected to take part in the full marathon which will start at 8:30am, while the half marathon, scheduled to be kicked off at 8:40am, is expected to be participated by 100 people.
Marathon participants will need a coronavirus negative certificate to take part in the race.
