The three-day Bangabandhu 44th National Athletics Championship, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will begin on Friday at the Bangabandu National Stadium here.
The championship was organized by Bangladesh Athletics Federation which will be inaugurated by the State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell MP on Saturday afternoon, although the competition will begin on Friday.
Mayor of the Dhaka South City Corporation Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh will be the chief guest at the closing function on Sunday.
Some 450 male and female athletes from 64 districts, eight divisions, universities, education boards, BKSP, BJMC and others affiliated bodies will compete in the 36 events– 22 for the men’s and 14 for the women’s.
The details of the meet were disclosed by Athletics Federation officials at a press conference at the conference room of Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Thursday.
Athletics Federation will award top three athletes of all the 36 events of the meet alongside national record breaking athletes.
The champion will get a prize money of Tk 3,000, runner-up Tk 2,000 and 3rd place holder Tk 1,000 while the national record holder athlete will receive Tk 5,000.
