BAN vs AFG 2022: BCB Announced ODI Squad for Afghanistan Series

The Afghanistan men’s cricket team will play three One-Day Internationals and two Twenty-20 Internationals during their February-March trip to Bangladesh. The tour will be vital for both Bangladesh and Afghanistan because the ODI series will be part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League (2020-2023). The Bangladesh Cricket Board released their ODI squad on Monday (February 14), while the Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed their ODI and T20I teams. Let’s have a look at the Bangladesh ODI squad for the BAN vs AFG 2022 series.

Bangladesh’s Squad for the Afghanistan ODI Series 2022

The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced their 15-man ODI team on Monday (February 14) for the forthcoming series against Afghanistan. In order to give emerging talented players a chance, the BCB selectors included four uncapped players in the three-match series. The selectors had to leave some well-known players out of the ODI squad to make room for these players.

Pacer Ebadot Hossain, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed, middle-order batter Yasir Ali, and top-order batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy are among the players who have yet to play an ODI. These players have already represented Bangladesh at the international level, but have yet to participate in a limited-overs match. Therefore, it will be intriguing to see how big of an impact they can make if they have an opportunity to play in the series against Afghanistan.

Ebadot was picked as a backup pacer for Taskin Ahmed since the selectors did not include experienced Rubel Hossain for the series. Nasum Ahmed was included in place of Taijul Islam. Nasum has been in excellent form over the last year, so his selection seemed logical. Mohammad Mithun was replaced by an in-form hard-hitter Yasir Ali. Besides, young top-order batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy astonished everyone with his patience batting against New Zealand last month. He came in to replace Mohammad Naim, who has been out of form.

Apart from them, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mosaddek Hossain, and Nurul Hasan were not picked for the contest.

Bangladesh’s seasoned opener, Tamim Iqbal will lead the team in the ODI series. Bangladesh’s limited-overs team will be tough to beat at home. As a result, Afghanistan players will have to give it their best to win the series against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in strong positions in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Both teams will be focused on winning this series in order to enhance their positions in the standings.

Bottom Line

The BCB selectors were under pressure following the national team’s recent disappointing performances on the international stage. That’s why the upcoming series is critical for Bangladesh to leave a positive impression on the world cricket community. Taking into consideration several aspects, the Bangladesh selectors chose the best possible squad for the BAN vs AFG 2022 series. Players who have been picked for the limited-overs format for the first time should take advantage of the opportunity to showcase that they are capable of performing at the highest level.

Bangladesh will be aiming to win all three ODIs in order to take the top spot of the ongoing World Cup Super League, while Afghanistan will want to accomplish the same in the series. Both teams will attempt to outshine one another in the contest in order to climb the ODI CWC Super League points standings.
