Air Asia fined for boarding Covid-19 positive passenger

A Mobile Court on Sunday fined Malaysia-based airline Air Asia Tk 1 lakh for bringing a Covid-19 positive passenger at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Executive Magistrate Ahmed Jamil, who operated the mobile court, said the Covid-19 positive passenger is a migrant worker who was sent to hospital.

Air Asia authorities have confessed to their crime, he said.

The flight with the coronavirus patient landed at Dhaka airport at 11:56 pm on Saturday.

The migrant worker didn’t know that he was Covid-19 positive but later came to know about it after conversing with other passengers.

He took the Covid positive certificate from a laboratory in Malaysia but he could not read the test report.

Besides, no one checked his certificate during the immigration at Kuala Lumpur or before boarding the flight.
