A ninth-grader was found dead at Belar Gumti in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat on Wednesday, four days after he had gone missing.
Nazmul, 14, son of Al Amin of Badalgachhi upazila in Naogaon, was a class IX student of Khadail High School.
Quoting family sources, Abdul Latif Khan, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station, said Nazmul had gone out of his home on Friday after getting a phone call and remained missing since then.
Later, someone made a phone call to the family of Nazmul and demanded Tk 15 lakh as ransom.
The victim’s family then filed a case at Badalgachhi Police Station on Saturday.
On Wednesday morning, locals spotted the body of a boy in a sack and informed police who recovered it.
Nazmul’s mother and uncle identified the body.
Police sent the body to a local hospital morgue for autopsy.
