7th phase election to 138 UPs to be held on February 7

The 7th and final phase election to 138 Union Parishad will be held on February 7 in the country’s 20 districts, according to the schedule announced by the Election Commission.

As per the election schedule, the deadline for nomination submission is January 12, while the date for scrutiny of nomination papers is January 15 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 22.

The last phase election will be held from 8:00am to 4:00pm without any break, said EC joint secretary (public relations) SM Asaduzzaman on Wednesday.

The 138 UPs include 24 in Cumilla district, while 19 in Rangamati, 17 in Rangpur, 16 in Chattogram, 11 in Mymensingh, nine in Kishoreganj, eight in Noakhali, seven in Sunamganj, six in Patuakhali, five in Khagrachari, three in Bandarban, two each in Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, Joypurhat and Sirajganj, and one each in Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Pirajpur, Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar.

The electronic voting machines (EVM) will be used in only six UPs, while traditional ballot papers will be used in the remaining 132 UPs.
