Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), a specialized wing of Bangladesh Police, arrested an alleged active member of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Joypurhat district early Saturday.
The arrestee is Md Mujibur Rahman, 48, son of late Gomir Uddin of village Bashmori under Ghuraghat upazila in Dinajpur district.
Mujirbur was an active member of Dawah wing of Dinajpur and Joypurhat of the banned outfit, said Md Aslam Khan, SP (Media) of the ATU headquarters here.
Tipped off, a special team of the ATU conducted a drive at Dadra village under Jamalpur union of Joypurhat district at around 5:15 am and arrested him, he said.
One mobile phone set and a large quantity of documents related to militancy, extremism books and booklets were recovered from his possession.
He was involved in collecting members through ‘Dawati’ (Invitation) activities and in organizing the militant organization.
