Norwegian lawmakers’ team discusses tourism with HoR committee


The visiting delegation of the Norwegian lawmakers held a meeting with the International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives on Thursday.

Chairperson and Members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Storting, Norway paid a visit and held discussion with the Nepali team.

Tourism Committee Chair Raj Kishor Yadav and Members of the International Relations and Tourism Committee welcomed the distinguished delegations led by lawmaker Ine Eriksen Spreide, the Committee Chairperson.

Other members were lawmakers Asmund Aukrust, Guri Melby, Ingrid Fiskaa, Sylvi Listhaug, Harek Elvenes, Ola Borten Moe, Bengt Fasteraune, Trine Lise Sundnes, Nils-Ole Foshaug, Ms Vibeke Rysst-Jensen and Ms GroKolstad Mortvedt.

The Tourism Committee mentioned in a press release: “The meeting is the first ever meeting of similar Parliamentary Committees of two nations and the two sides focused the meeting as a stepping stone on a parliamentary diplomacy. On the occasion, both the par
liamentary committees commemorated the friendly ties and existing cordial and cooperative relationship between Nepal and Norway.”

The meeting shared information on the formation of the parliaments, governance systems and the democratic process inclusion in both the countries. Shared values on democracy, human rights and social justice along with achieving common global agendas like climate change mitigation and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals featured during the meeting.

The Norwegian lawmakers acknowledged Nepal’s contribution to peace keeping mission and emphasized to promote cooperation on energy sector of Nepal.

The parliamentary committee forwarded its view to widen the horizon of mutual cooperation by systematic strengthening of parliamentary research, participatory evaluation of the delegated legislation, co-learning and exchange of parliamentary practices and additional technical assistance, it was shared.
