Seven people were killed in lightning strikes as they went fishing in haors in sylhet and sunamganj districts today.
The deceased were Ansar Ali, 65, of Katimara village in
Khadimpara Union of Sadar upazila, Sufian Ahmed, 19, of Soroil village in Dashghor union of Bishwanath upazila, Masuk Ahmed, 41, of Rajnagar village in Purba Islampur Union of Companiganj upazila of the Sylhet district, Jalal Uddin, 35, Jashim Uddin, 26, of Porichar village under Pandargaon union in Dowarabazar upazila, Sundar Ali, 50, of Mallikpur village of the Chatak upazila and Sharif Miah, 30, of Kalaguja village of Jamalganj upazila of Sunamganj district.
Officer-In-Charge of Shah Poran (RM) Police Station Md Monir Hossain said
Ansar Ali went to fishing in his pond and struck by lightning at 11.30 am and died on the spot.
Murari Chand (MC) College student Sufian died after being hit by lightning as he and his brother went fishing in Dobir Haor in this dawn.
He was taken to Bishwanath Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor
declared him dead, said Ataur Rahman, Officer- In-charge (OC) of the Bishwanath Police Station.
On the other hand, Masuk was killed by lightning when he went to cut
grass at 7am, said Ujayer Al Mahmud, OC of the Companiganj Thana.
In Sunamganj, Jalal and Jashim went to fishing near a wetland with others in Dekhar Haor in Dowarabazar and were struck by lightning in the morning and died on the spot, Pandergaon Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Wahid said.
Officer-In-charge of Jamalganj Police station S M Kamal Hossain said
thunderbolt hit Sharif while he was fishing near a haor of his village today.
Meanwhile, OC of Chatak Police Station Mahbubur Rahman said Sundar Ali was struck by lightning while he was fishing in Buabil haor at 8am. He was taken to Chatak Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared them dead.
