International Literacy Day-2024 was
observed today in the district as elsewhere in the country in a befitting
manner.
This year’s theme of the day is “Promoting multilingual education: Literacy
for mutual understanding and peace”.
The day (September 8) was proclaimed as International Literacy Day by UNESCO
in 1966 to remind the international community of the importance of literacy
for individuals, communities and societies, and the need for intensified
efforts towards more literate societies.
On the occasion, a colourful procession was brought out at 10 am from the
Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises and ended at the same venue after
parading main roads of the town.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chapainawabganj AKM Galiv Khan led the procession
with the participation of the students of Shah Neamatullah College and
different schools.
Marking the day, Chapainawabganj district office of the Bureau of Non-formal
Education under the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education organised a
discussion in
association with Chetona Manobik Unnayan Sangstha at the DC’s
conference room.
DC of Chapainawabganj AKM Galiv Khan attended the meeting as the chief guest
with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Papiya Sultana in the
chair.
A powerpoint presentation on “Out of School Children Education Programme” was
given by AQM Golam Sarwar, head of a non-government organisation Chetona
Manobik Unnayan Sangstha.
Head teacher of Pathanpara Government Primary School Md. Maruful Hoque,
teacher of Ganka Shikhan Kendra Mst Alo Khatun and Executive Director of
Chetona Manobik Unnayan Sangstha Md. Jafrul Alam spoke on the occasion.
Representatives of various educational institutions and non-government
organizations and students of various academic institutions were present,
among others,.
Assistant Director (Current Duty) of the Chapainawabganj district office of
the Bureau of Non-formal Education and also the assistant district primary
education officer of Chapainawabganj Md. Abdur Razzaq presente
d the
programme.
The speakers asked all to check dropouts of students and set themselves in
building a new Bangladesh.
