The general point-to-point inflation rate eased
slightly last month as it reached 10.49 percent in August, 2024 due to
downtrend mainly in food inflation.
The general point-to-point inflation rate in July, 2024 was 11.66 percent,
according to the latest data of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The BBS data showed that the food inflation declined to 11.36 percent in
August 2024 from 14.10 percent in the previous month, while the non-food
inflation rate slightly increased to 9.74 percent last month from 9.68
percent in July, 2024.
The general point to point inflation both at the urban and rural areas also
declined last month.
The point to point inflation in the rural areas in August was 10.95 percent
down from 11.89 percent in July. On the other hand, the point to point
inflation rate in the urban areas in August was 10.01 percent down from 11.27
percent in July.
The wage rate index in August witnessed an uptrend with 7.96 percent which
was 7.93 percent in July.
