Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder today stressed the need for learning other languages alongside the mother tongue to become global citizens.
‘We need to practice other languages to become global citizens. If we can make our children multi-linguistics, they will be an asset for the country,’ he said.
He made the remarks while inaugurating day-long programme as the chief guest marking the International Literacy Day-2024 by releasing balloons, festoons and pigeons at the Bureau of Non-Formal Education at Tejgaon here. The Day is being observed in the country and elsewhere across the globe with the theme, ‘Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding.’
The adviser said they have been turning the countrymen into skilled workforce so that they become assets for the nation.
‘We don’t want only to make the people literate; rather we want to build them as skilled persons so that they can turn into competent workforce. As Bangladesh has huge population
it can be turned into human resources if we can make them literate and skilled,’ he said.
