Chattogram district administration has announced an eight-day lockdown in Fatikchhari upazila from June 23 to June 30.
The decision was taken at a meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Upazila’s Covid-19 infection rate was on the rise.
According to the District Civil Surgeon’s Office, in the past one week 196 Covid-19- infected patients were identified in Fatikchhari.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mominur Rahman said the lockdown will be imposed from tomorrow till June 30. During the lockdown, all businesses including shops, hotels, restaurants and community centers would remain open from 7 am to 11 am in the morning and from 3 pm to 6 pm in the afternoon. However, drug stores and kitchen markets would be open as usual.
All kinds of public gatherings including social, cultural, and religious ceremonies were prohibited until further notice.
Upazila Health Officer Nabil Chowdhury said that the infection rate in the upazila increased over the past two weeks.
However, there are no patients in critical condition, he said.
