Amid concerns over the spread of the Delta variant, Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) on Saturday morning recorded 13 more Covid-related deaths in 24 hours.
Among them, five were confirmed Covid-19 patients while the remaining eight showed symptoms of coronavirus, said hospital director Brig General Shamim Yeazdani.
Of the deceased, seven were from Rajshahi district, one each from Chapainawabganj, Pabna and Naogaon, and three from Natore district.
A total of 405 people, including 189 Covid patients, have died of Covid-19 in Rajshahi division last month alone as the situation is worsening in many border districts.
Shamim said that some 71 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in 24 hours, while 44 people were discharged after recovery.
Bangladesh has enforced a seven-day countrywide stricter lockdown, with effect from July 1, amid a surge in Covid-19 cases.
In mid-April, restrictions on activities and movement were imposed across the country as cases and fatalities rose to their highest levels since the start of the pandemic.
The positivity rate fell in May, but started creeping up again in June.
